In 2016, I launched my own meal delivery company, serving Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. I had the recipes, the tasty menus, and the delivery logistics down. However, I quickly realized that I lacked essential knowledge about running a legitimate business and, more crucially, understanding finances.
This realization led me to a path of self-guided learning. I delved into studying, investing, meticulously tracking both personal and business finances, networking, and seeking wisdom from others who had trodden similar paths. It was clear that without a solid financial foundation, everything I had built was at risk.
I decided to pursue the Life License Qualification Program and the Canadian Investment Funds Course. These experiences provided me with valuable insights and knowledge.
In this journey, I discovered not only my passion for financial matters but also my knack for understanding them. I saw that people like me were in need of guidance.
One major lesson that stood out was the glaring gap between everyday Millennials and the financial services industry. Whether you're a self-employed individual, a lawyer, or a salaried employee with benefits, there's a significant divide. Many Millennials believe financial advice is expensive and not tailored to them. However, research showed that households working with advisors saved at twice the rate compared to those without advice, with an annual savings rate of 8.6% versus 4.3%.
From my own experiences, I learned that the best advisors can create a comprehensive financial plan that aligns with your goals and needs, in a clear and efficient manner. And that's precisely what I do.
